Future Tenses

In January, we discussed the difference between going to" and "will". Today, we'll look at other future tenses: future continuous, future perfect, and the future perfect continuous (plus review the future simple). By the end of this post, you will have learned how to use these tenses. :-)!

Future Simple: Review

We use the future simple to:

a) make predictions

I think The Montreal Canadians will win The Stanley Cup next year.

b) offers to help/do a task

A: The phone's ringing.

B: Oh, I'll get it.

c) make promises

Sorry about the noise. It won't happen again.

d) talk about less definite plans.

I'm not sure what I'll do downtown. I'll probably have a coffee or something.

Future Perfect

The future perfect talks about actions that will be completed before a specific time in the future.

Future Perfect Continuous

The future perfect continuous is for events/actions that started in present (or recent past) and will still be happening or just have finished by a specific time in the future.

 Future Continuous

The future continuous is for events/actions that will still be in progress at a specific time in the future.
