What's The Difference? RISE vs RAISE

Today (in this short, short post) we look at the two of the most similar verbs in the English language: rise and raise.

First, a quick look at the grammar...

Rise is an irregular verb: rise, rose, risen
Raise is a regular verb: raise, raised, raised

Both rise and raise refer to something going up, but...

Rise is an intransitive verb: it doesn't need an object.

The sun will rise tomorrow.

Raise is a transitive verb: it needs an object.

"Please raise your hands if you have a question."
